Breaking news is often wrong at first. Instead of stamping stories true or false, we give every claim a status that says how far the evidence goes — and we change it, in public, when the evidence does.
What each status means
- Confirmed
- Two or more independent, strong sources — or primary evidence.
- Likely
- Strong but incomplete evidence.
- Disputed
- Credible sources conflict.
- Contradicted by evidence
- Strong evidence points the other way.
- Misleading context
- Real material presented with a false framing — often old footage or a wrong place or date.
- Single source
- Traces back to one origin, however many outlets repeat it.
- Developing
- Reported, not yet independently confirmed.
- Unverifiable
- The available evidence cannot settle it. We say so plainly.
How a story is checked
We gather the reporting
Stories start from published reporting and public claims. Many outlets repeating one report are treated as one source, not many.
We separate the claims
Each story is broken into specific, checkable claims. Opinion, prediction and satire are not labelled as true or false.
Automation proposes, a person decides
Our tools retrieve sources, check that quoted passages really exist, and suggest a status. No status is published until an editor sets it and writes down why.
We show the evidence
Every claim lists the passages that support or contradict it, with links to the originals, so you can check our reasoning rather than take our word for it.
We update in public
When evidence changes, the status changes — and the story's changelog records what changed, when and why. Nothing is edited silently.
Who runs the desk
The news desk is part of ParadoxAI, published by Nixtre Technologies Ltd. It carries no advertising and no sponsored content. AI helps gather coverage and draft the claims worth checking; an editor reviews the evidence and sets every status, and every change is logged on the story.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we say so on the story itself, in its changelog, and on our track record page, which counts every conclusive label we later revised. A published claim is never deleted — it can only be re-labelled, with the reason shown.
